The townhouse dates back to the 15th–17th centuries and has been connected to wine from the very beginning. The co-owner of the Kral Steffanus brand, Pavol Král, and his partner Adriana had long considered an investment, and finally, at the beginning of 2015, the decision was made. The historic winery residence in the town of Freistadt Rust in Austria is a UNESCO-protected monument.
Our own vineyards are located in the Burgenland wine region – the Ruster Höhenzug plot, just a short distance from the Slovak border. Burgenland is a natural paradise on Lake Neusiedl, and the vineyards are situated among romantic cycling routes. The historic winery house is located right in the center of the charming town of Rust, next to a beautiful church, only 45 minutes by car from Bratislava. During the renovation, there was a clear vision – to modernize the spaces while emphasizing the preservation of the historic features of this unique building. Outside, in the garden and in the former barn area, a space was created for wine tastings and culinary events.
Austria is famous for its rich cuisine, which is inseparably connected to wine. As in every proper winery, you will also find at Kral Steffanus a beautifully renovated wine cellar, hiding treasures that would delight any wine connoisseur. Barrique barrels filled with the maturing wealth of the flagship red wine Kral Steffanus – MAGNUS – hold a place of honor here.
“I am extremely happy that we were able to invest in this unique residence. Wine is a matter of the heart for me, and cultivating it fulfills me. When I care for our harvest with my own hands to achieve the highest quality wines, I am grateful to spend the whole day in nature and draw energy from it for my everyday life,” says Kral Steffanus co-owner Pavol Král. Although wine cultivation is not currently his primary business activity, he gradually aims to one day move to Rust and fully enjoy the beauty of winery life.
Kral Steffanus boutique wine is produced in collaboration with the Austrian partner Stefan Zehetbauer, whose family has been making wine for over 350 years. Currently, it is the tenth generation of the Zehetbauer family, passing down the most valuable wine-growing knowledge from one generation to the next. Thanks to this heritage, Kral Steffanus is such a unique wine.
